We believe that engaging with the world of work and understanding the qualities that top companies are seeking in their employees benefits all our students, whether they seize the new opportunities offered by degree apprenticeships or follow a more traditional degree path.

Leavers' Destinations

Our Upper Sixth leavers go to a wide range of higher education destinations across the UK, from Cambridge to Central Saint Martins, Edinburgh to Exeter. Some study at international institutions in the United States and The Netherlands.

Future Focus Programme

From inspirational guest speakers to completing a stand-out UCAS application, our impressive Future Focus programme supports our Sixth Formers to fulfil their true potential.

Future Focus is the Bromley High School Sixth Form careers, higher education and personal development programme; a programme of talks and events organised by both Bromley High School and the GDST, which prepares students for university, apprenticeships or employment in addition to personal development and well-being.

We offer a wide range of careers events such as focused careers panel events to which several industry experts are invited, and GDST organised opportunities such as Insight Days, courses and conferences.

University Presentations

Top universities from across the UK are invited regularly to offer advice on choosing a course, successfully applying for a competitive course, making the most out of an open day, attending an interview and what graduate employers are looking for. Girls also receive expert advice from university admission tutors on how to write a personal statement

Representatives from Cambridge, Imperial College, Reading and Goldsmith’s have presented to our Sixth Form in the past.

Careers Insight Events

Insight events feature a panel of industry experts or guest speakers, to offer insight into specific industries or companies. Recent events have included PwC, Facebook, Net a Porter, Rolls Royce, Siemens, Barclays, HSBC, Nomura, the Royal Opera House, Aberdeen Asset Management, and Ericsson.
We offer events for MDV (medics, dentistry and veterinary science), Law and STEM to offer support and advice for applying to these courses and what additional preparation is required.

Future Focus Day

Once a term the school holds a Future Focus Day, each one featuring speakers and activities relevant and interesting to young people. In the Lower Sixth there is an emphasis on developing good study skills and making a UCAS application/applying for an apprenticeship. In the Upper Sixth we look at life beyond school and living independently, which forms part of the PSHE programme.

University Applications & Mock Interviews

UCAS advice is skilled and systematic. Individual support and guidance is based on a combination of extensive expertise and intimate knowledge of individual girls, their talents and their aspirations. Individual interviews with the Sixth Form Team lead to detailed and individualised support for UCAS application. All students meet regularly with their academic mentor and form tutor for support with their personal statement, and The Director of Careers or The Director of Sixth Form meet girls at least once to supervise their overall UCAS submission.

In addition to a mock interview training workshop, all girls are offered at least one mock interview. Potential medics, dentists, vets, lawyers and Oxford applicants will have further practice interviews as well as those applying to Art Foundations.

We also offer expertise in applications to US and European universities, with recent successful entries including Yale, Princeton and Rice (Texas).

Oxbridge Programme

We offer a tailored Oxbridge programme of support, including interview and entrance test preparation, as well as expert admissions advice from Oxbridge Directors of Admissions and Admissions Tutors.

The GDST offers a number of Oxbridge preparation courses, working with experts in their chosen field of study, as well as a weekend residential conference for girls across the Trust’s schools. For many, Oxbridge preparation begins early with many of our Year 10 pupils visiting Oxford and Cambridge.

Apprenticeships Programme

Degree apprenticeships combine working for a sponsoring company with studying part-time at university, providing students with a salary and enabling them to escape the burden of student debt. In addition, students gain invaluable work experience and the opportunity to develop their career within the sponsoring company.

Working in collaboration with the GDST, last year we hosted our first ever Apprenticeships Insight Event. Over 100 attendees at this event from fourteen different schools (students from local state schools and from our sister schools in the Girls’ Day School Trust) heard presentations from WhiteHat, All About School Leavers and Cogent Skills. All three organisations are leading players in the world of apprenticeships. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion with three GDST alumnae, who are currently apprentices at the BBC, Rolls-Royce and Larking Gowen, and then an apprenticeship ‘fair’ with representatives from sixteen different organisations (including PwC and Goldman Sachs).

Conferences & Exhibitions

Several large conferences and exhibitions are organised by the school and the GDST, such as a huge careers convention featuring a large number of representatives from a diverse range of careers including architecture, accountancy, law, marketing, fashion journalism and engineering.

"Sixth form pupils appreciate and enjoy this programme, and the opportunities and excellent careers guidance that it provides."
