Bromley High School, nestled in leafy Bickley, Bromley, is a vibrant community dedicated to charitable giving. Embedded in school life, numerous partnerships and activities focus on giving back to the community, fostering a culture of empathy and social responsibility among pupils.

At every stage of school life, girls use their entrepreneurial skills to find new ways to fundraise for good causes and raise awareness of social and environmental issues. Every class in the school takes responsibility for organising its own fund raising event and the Senior School alone raises in the region of £25,000 a year. The Junior School girls are enthusiastic and creative fundraisers and have particularly enjoyed sponsoring two African girls’ educations this year.

The school collaborates with local primary schools in digital leadership projects and the SHINE project for gifted and talented pupils in Years 5 and 6. We also host a wide range of academic conferences, lectures and careers events for students in local secondary schools.

Last year, pupils from Year 10 upwards devoted 2,353 hours to community service through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Volunteering in the local community is also an important element of the Sixth Form Darwin Elective programme and involves visiting schools for children with learning difficulties, helping the elderly at local residential homes and teaching swimming skills to disabled children.

Many local children have learned to swim in our impressive pool and the school’s first class sporting facilities attract elite teams from across the South East, including Kent Netball and Telstars. England Netball has chosen Bromley High School as the location for its Regional Performance Academy serving London and the South East.

“Bromley High School is truly a blueprint for promoting multiculturalism and acknowledging and celebrating the girls heritages.”Year 1 Parent

"Pupils are actively involved in charitable giving and fundraising."

SHINE

Launched in 2012, the Bromley High School SHINE programme continues to evolve, but its aim is always to inspire primary pupils, allowing them to see new possibilities and realise their full potential.

The programme is designed to raise the aspirations of pupils in Year 5, to increase their confidence, to build on their social skills, and to ease the transition into senior school. While at the same time, SHINE gives them an opportunity to explore STEM subjects and develop their skills. Pupils from each partner school attend Bromley High School for three school days in the summer term. On each day they are paired with a different school, so teamwork is encouraged from the off.

Each day of the programme is completely different. While the overriding theme is sustainability, the context ranges from building wind turbines to programming digital spheres, making electric bugs, designing egg-landers, and measuring environmental impact.

In terms of outreach, an important aspect of our SHINE programme is ensuring its accessibility for participating schools. We achieve this by scheduling sessions on school days, providing transportation, offering snacks and lunch breaks, and, if requested by visiting schools, supplying necessary lesson resources. Our goal is to facilitate a seamless and inclusive experience for all involved.

Bromley High Parents' Association

The Bromley High Parent’s Association is a group formed of parents acting on behalf of the parent body in association with the school to enhance the academic experience of all the girls in the whole of the Junior and Senior Schools.

They work very closely with the Head and the Senior Leadership Team of the school to promote a sense of community in the school. To this end they have three main events a year: Fireworks Night, the Christmas Market and a Summer Ball. Whilst these activities are intended as social occasions the main aim is fundraising for the benefit of the school.

The BHPA is not all about raising money however. They promote relationships within the school and wider community so if you would like to get involved please get in touch.

They are always happy to welcome new parents to the BHPA family.
