At A Level, the specification followed is Edexcel Advanced Physics. This course can be concept or context led and is well supported by detailed teaching notes and dedicated textbooks. Topic areas include the following:

At AS Level

Mechanics, Materials, Waves, DC Electricity and the Nature of Light

At A2 Level

Further Mechanics, Electric and Magnetic Fields, Particle Physics, Thermal Energy, Nuclear Decay, Oscillations and Astrophysics and Cosmology.

A detailed account of the subject content can be found at:

Internal assessment is included at both AS and A2 Levels. At AS Level, this consists of a case study or visit followed by a practical based on this. At A2 Level, an investigative task is undertaken.

Many of the pupils who study A-Level physics draw, not only on their knowledge of physics, but also on the analytical and problem-solving skills they have developed during their training.

A knowledge of Physics helps to provide the opportunity to enter many careers including Architecture, Oceanography, Optometry, Medicine, Medical Physics, Meteorology, Civil, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Environmental Science, Telecommunications, Materials Technology and Astronomy.
