History in Key Stage 5
The History Department offers both AS and A2 courses offered by the Edexcel in this subject. In the AS course the students look firstly at historical themes in breadth including Italian Unification c1815-1870 and the Unification of Germany1848-1890 (unit1). The second course concerns The Changing Condition of Women in Britain and the Suffrage Question 1860-1930. Both courses are examined at the end of Year 12.
In Year 13 the A2 course offers two courses which are studied in depth: The World in Crisis 1879-1941 which is examined at the end of the year (unit 3) and a historical enquiry, Russia and the USSR 1825-2000 which is assessed by coursework (unit 4).
A Level students are given a wide range of reading material to support their work and the school library has specialist sections which are well stocked with more helpful material.
Visits to lectures in London on relevant topics are arranged where possible.
