ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS STUDIES
Welcome to the opportunity to extend your financial literacy and economic awareness!! Both of these 2 challenging subjects will encourage you to adopt a new way of perceptive and insightful thinking, learn some new and sophisticated vocabulary and you will soon find yourself impressing both yourself and others with your knowledge and awareness of both topical and contemporary issues!! It is not recommended that both of these subjects are studied as there are some areas of overlap, but whichever one you choose you can rest assured that these subjects will be relevant to whatever career you pursue as well as of relevance on a day-to-day basis. You are expected to further develop your classwork by background reading so as to develop an awareness and understanding of the market and capitalist economy in which we as individuals and an economy operate.
ECONOMICS GCSE
Economics GCSE is a new addition to the range of GCSE options. The increasingly high profile of Economics and the worrying statistics regarding financial illiteracy in the UK and beyond have led us to believe that we need to positively act and provide our pupils with the opportunity to further their financial awareness so that they become financially astute individuals. However, not only will you learn how to manage your finances and how to budget, you will also be introduced to basic economic concepts so as to help you make informed judgements as a responsible individual; we look at government policies and objectives, the European Union and our place in it amongst other issues. You will undertake investigative research into current economic issues and will surprise yourself and impress others by understanding what is going on in the news!!
